PICKITUP - 2006/06/27 21:51 Hi!

Lest we get off the topic on our previous posts...........

Thanks for the confirmation from Pickitup that the bins were collected. I don't like to leave them out too long as they may get nicked!

Vehicles breaking down is also a bit of a cop-out I'm sure. LOOK AFTER THEM BETTER! I see Carol is calling for resients to attend a meetign with Pickitup on July 22nd, (I think).

Who will take my bet that they will still arrive with the preverbial numbers when it is Christmas tip week!!! They'll be on time then I'm sure!

Good point about doign it ourselves - there's money in muck! In the U.K. they are considering taxing households on their rubbish. How long before that great idea hits these shores. Even a country the size of S.A. can't continue to dump rubbish indefinately. My suppliers pay for bottles & there's the papers as well. Maybe get some guys to collect on our behalf & they can keep the dosh?

PIKITUP - 2006/06/28 04:05 Exactly what Jeremy Burnham and ORA are trying to get off the ground: get all people to sort their waste in the kitchen (even if you just do paper and plastic; or paper and glass), put it out the day Pikitup comes around for your normal rubbish, but have two "bagmen" removing our recycled waste.
Problem: they need carts (and Council's specific about that: can't be wider than a wheelchair to fit on the pavements, must be certain length, etc.)
If we can get a company to sponsor two carts and ask two unemployed people to remove the recycled waste and sell at buy-back centre, we have not only empowerment, but are TRULY green.
What about it, Obs? Who can get a cart or two sponsored? We have a design for the carts. We just need a couple of thousand - and you to recycle at source

PIKITUP - 2006/07/06 07:18 It always makes me chuckle when I hear council have rules about this & that but don't seem to do anything about illegal dumping etc.

There seem to be a couple of rather shabby gentlemen doing this sort of job already as I have, twice, asked them to put back the rubbish they throw on the pavement whilst lookign through the bins for goodness knows what!

Good idea about the days/collections. We save bottles & papers & throw the kitchen waste onto the garden. Not much I know, but every little helps - just annoying that our power saving ideas are wasted by the council as we still have the lights on during the day!
