Here you go - 2005/07/21 20:32 Ok I feel we shouldnt have to pay to use the forum. Also this website wont bring in enough revenue with just residents paying. Its a good idea, but if we want to talk about security issues and warn others of danger in the area, we shouldnt have to pay for it. Most of us are alreay paying for Security per month so I feel why should we pay for a Security Forum. And warning others of Danger is excellent but should be free.

Re:Here you go - 2005/07/22 05:58 I've raher enjoyed our little exchanges, Mag. But seriously: As for security warnings and other topics on the forum, EVERYONE can read them, but non-members can just not reply or post a new topic. For that you need a username and password.

We have up to date suspended not ONE new member's account just because they have not paid.

And I think you might underestimate the small amount of R120 FOR A WHOLE YEAR. ORA had only 96 members out of 850 households in this area. If we can raise that membership with just 300, it means R36 000 in funds for ORA. Add Chas Everitt's R20 000 and you can nearly pay for a town or development planner.

We are not only relying on membership fees, but we hope to raise at least another R6 000 through advertising on this site (10 ads @ R600 for 6 months), and it's an ideal vehicle to let people know of our other fundraisers, like the upcoming golf day and street party.

The money drive is for at least 6 months, then the planner's job is done and he must be paid. After that, we can continue raising funds and use that money to address other issues in the suburb: maybe like Mr Burke suggested one security company for the WHOLE suburb, maybe a home for Aids orphans?

All I know, is we need money NOW - and we have only 6 months to raise it in.
We can but try...

Re:Here you go - 2005/07/22 15:53 Well ill speak to my Family and see if they prepared to pay or not.
Heres an idea for you, Use the observatory in our area to raise funds. It costs R10 for adults , well have a night where we charge R20 for adults and get a good speaker on the stars and show the telescope thing. Also do it in the Summer so its warm and make it not on a Friday night so that the Jewish people in the area can attend.???

FORUM PAYMENTS - 2005/07/23 09:09 I'm not sure if I'm missing something here; we're NOT paying to use the forum. These guys are asking more of us to joing the residents' assoc.

I think the site's a great idea & the forum is chucked in with it, (well, whatever you computer people do with forums, I just use them!). The fact is Mag, someone got up & actually did it!

Too much apathy around, well, everywhere. A small number of people are expected to do everything & we're all just too busy when it comes to our turn etc.

ZAR 120 p.a. mmmmmm, let's see if my maths. is still good after all this time, 33cents a day. Shocking amount for what I think is a great idea. Cheap at triple the price!

We don't all have to be best friends or agree on every point, however, we all live in a beautiful suburb that is just being discovered by others, (four property developers this week have knocked on the door asking about the house/land etc.). If we don't get some sort of plan into the council goodness knows what weird & wonderful will be in store FOR US ALL!

A strong residents' association usually means the people care about their suburb, maybe 700+ homes don't care or, maybe, they don't know about it - we didn't until we got a flier & then saw ads. for the web site! If we can all get a few households to join it puts us ALL in a strong position so we may all be heard & not just as individuals who are easily brushed aside by metro. councils!

I await your comments..............

Regards,

Mike
