Hilda Chirwa, a resident at 8 Gerard Street, Observatory, died of heart attack on her way home from work on Friday 10th February 2006. It had been a special day for her as she had just received pictures of the graduation from UCT of her son Ntatho and had taken them to work to show to her friends.
Hilda leaves three children; Brian (30), Nthato (25) and Pulane (14).
She lived with her parents, Edith and Walter Seate, her children and her nephew Kabelo (16), the son of her deceased brother. Walter retired recently as SA High Commissioner to Swaziland.
Hilda was a warm, friendly resident of Gerard Street and will be missed by all her neighbours. Our condolences to the family... Rubbish!
The rubbish collection day for the whole of Observatory is changing: Pikitup will from end February pick up your rubbish on Fridays. Remember to put your wheelie bins out only on THIS Friday 24 February.

Sad news
Christine Gracie, Observatory Ratepayers Association's new treasurer and a resident in Robertson Street, lost her 84-year-old dad. "I went to England to be with my mom who was having an op, but the day after I arrived, my dad passed away." Her mom's op was postponed until last week. "At least the news was good with my mom: she pulled through a very long operation," Christine said. Our thoughts are with Christine over this difficult period.

Frantz Dobrowsky
Lost souls...
Bertrams resident and famous actor Frantz Dobrowsky shot himself in his home on January 18. He was 58. Hours before, he'd booked an air ticket to Cape Town to play a passionate but disillussioned journalist in the drama Nagkantoor, directed by Sandra Prinsloo. The part was written specifically for him by playwright PG du Plessis. Dobrowsky, famous for his role as Parratjie in Leon Schuster's hit movie Panic Mechanic, shot himself with his father's gun, which for years he'd kept taped to the underside of a table at home in case he was attacked. This came weeks after his semi-detached home was repossessed. He told the bank he'd just made an ad for McDonald's and was due some money, but they wouldn't listen. Two weeks after his house was taken, the money arrived. Dobrowsky did TV and film work, including The Stick and The Native Who Caused All The Trouble, but his passion was the stage. He played some of the biggest and most sought after roles in Shakespeare, including Richard III, Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello.
