The kids from Observatory’s children’s homes enjoy Christmas!

Fifty kids from the Johannesburg Children's Home had great fun at the Observatory Ratepayers Association and Sacred Heart College's Christmas party on Friday night - but the party nearly didn't happen: The kids were going to walk to the school for the party, but the rain came down in buckets.

How to get 50 kids quickly to a party? With the help of an angel: Renee du Plooy of the non-profit organisation We Care arranged a bus within minutes and picked up the kids.

The community opened their hearts for our Christmas party: the pupils of Sacred Heart collected more than 300 presents for the kids - too much for our little party, so Renee was at the school to pick up all the toys for another Christmas party she is arranging for 500 kids in Bez Park on 4 December.

Thanks to the following residents who brought a smile to the kids' faces: Tannie Poppie Porter of Jeppestown who kindly donated 37 teddies for the 37 babies; resident Amanda Lanzaad, who donated 100 colouring books for the children's home kids (the rest were donated to We Care's big party); Rachel Browne for donating R350; Shelley and Andrew Gunn, who donated another R250 and Sabura Makan for donating the last R200.

It was a bit disappointing that not one of our residents pitched up at the party with their kids - you dipped out on great fun! Maybe next year, for the kids BEGGED for another party next Christmas...
