Our deepest sympathy to the Hunter family who lost their dad, Peter, very suddenly last Sunday. Peter's daughter, Rosemary, who runs her own law practice and is chairman of the board at Sacred Heart College, sent the following invitation to all the residents of Observatory:
Dear friends
This is an invitation from Lucienne, Roland & Avril, Catherine, Rosemary & Malcolm and Lalage & Bradley to a celebration of the life of our husband and father, Peter Hunter.
Fr. Vic Kotze will celebrate a requiem mass at 2pm on Saturday 27 January 2007 at -
St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, corner Bernard Street and Link Street South, Martindale (a small suburb between Ondekkers Road and Sophiatown).
We will be informally sharing refreshments and stories about Peter at 4pm at Rosemary’s house at
7 Gerard Street, Observatory.
Gerard Street intersects with Steyn street which runs along the eastern border of Sacred Heart College. Many people have asked us how they could help: It would be very helpful if you would bring with you a plate of snacks or drinks to share at the gathering at Gerard Street.
The immediate family will attend his private cremation immediately after mass and will join our friends at Gerard St afterwards.
We have lots of flowers filling our homes with colour and light. If you would like to make a contribution in Peter’s memory, please will you make it to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Peter and Lucienne’s parish and one that serves a largely poor community. Its banking details are as follows:
St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Martindale Standard Bank Branch 00610529 A/c 002886316

Douglas Forbes of Human Pincode-fame
One of Observatory's residents, Douglas Forbes, best-selling author of The Human Pincode-series, suffered a massive heart attack in December.
"I was at the gym, felt awful and just knew I was having a heart attack," says Douglas. He rushed off to the hospital, where he was revived twice. "But I now have a spring in my step, thanks to a sping or two in my heart. I'm as good as new."
Douglas' latest book, DNA-Pincode: the 9 Keys to your Destiny, is due for release soon.
It is with great sadness that we heard that the Observatory Ratepayers Association's vice-chair, Ane Niwinska, lost her mother, lovingly known as Mrs Rafferty, a week before Christmas. Our hearts go out to her. Mrs. R was a resident of Observatory.
A 25-year-old gardener drowned in his employer's swimming pool on 3 January. "The owner of the house in Observatory Avenue arrived home from work at about 4 o'clock and found the man in the pool," says Sen. Supt. Lobisi Motaung, who attended the scene. No foul play is suspected.
