Back with its rightful owner
The prized auction item that disappeared during the Observatory Ratepayers Association's recent golf day for Development players is back! The framed autograph book with the signatures of 33 Springbok legends of the late sixties, early seventies was auctioned that night for R5 500 - but someone walked off with it soon after the auction. The frame was Friday formally handed over to the rightful owner, Keith Wood, an insurance broker from Randburg, by Carine Hartman, who organised the golf day. She tracked the frame down late last week. Posted 3 October 2005
The infamous framed autograph book Our prized auction item that disappeared during our recent golf day for Development players is back!
The framed autograph book with the signatures of 33 Springbok legends of the late sixties, early seventies was auctioned that night for R5 500 - but someone walked off with it soon after the auction. We investigated and tracked our frame down late last week. It was returned to us and a donation of R1 000 was made, as well as a letter of apology. We have decided to not take the matter further. The famous 33 autographs The frame has pen sketches of each of the players and includes 6 Springbok captains like Dawie de Villiers, and names like Keith Oxlee, Joggie Jansen, Syd Nomis and Mannetjies Roux. It was kindly donated by one of Observatory’s residents, Rudolph Odendaal. Our kitty has now swelled with another R6 500! We will hand over the frame this week to its rightful owner, mr Keith Wood.
Boxing legend Brian Mitchell struts his stuff for the girls from Parkview Development Club at the Observatory Ratepayers Association's golf day for development kids on Tuesday. Eight girls from Parkview were sponsored by Observatory residents for the day Golf fun marred by theftOur golf day for development players at the Observatory Golf Club on Tuesday (September 6 2005) went down well: not only the kids, but also the "serious" golfers had great fun, with great prizes for all. Our fund-raising, however, took a serious knock when one of our prized auction items disappeared: the framed autograph book with the signatures of 33 Springbok legends of the late sixties, early seventies was auctioned that night for R5 500 - but someone walked off with it soon after the auction. We tracked down the frame two weeks later, it was returned and a donation of R1 000 made. The frame has pen sketches of each of the players and includes 6 Springbok captains like Dawie de Villiers, and names like Keith Oxlee, Joggie Jansen, Syd Nomis and Mannetjies Roux. It was kindly donated by one of Observatory’s residents, Rudolph Odendaal. A signed autobiography of Brian Mitchell with one of his special wines, fetched R250 at the auction, as did the autobiography of Hansie Cronje, Hansie and the Boys. The signed biography of cricket legend Ali Bacher fetched R200. Thank you to all the residents and corporates who helped to make the day wonderful. The 17-year old Lesego Tshauke from the SA Development Board met his match at the Observatory Ratepayers Association's golf day: boxing legend Brian Mitchell showed Lesego he also knows a thing or two about wrestling. Brian surprised the 28 development kids with a quick visit. Thank you, Observatory! Rudolph Odendaal, one of the Observatory residents who sponsored eight girls from the Parkview Development Club for the golf day, gets a big thank you from some of the girls - all sporting sunflower bandanas to show their support for cancer patients. Simba the Lion popped in at the golf day for development kids - and met two of his biggest fans: Ayanda Zide, from Parkview, sporting a sunflower bandana to show her support for cancer patients, and Laurence Mbulo from the SA Development Board at Linksfield. Emma Hartman, an Observatory resident, gets to know (from left) Dineo Cindi, Ayanda Zide and a shy Boitumelo Padi from Parkview. Meet the Observatory residents' team: the girls from Parkview were sponsored by residents and the Garrun Group. Anni Cloete of the estate agent Jawitz is surrounded by the twelve boys from the SA Development Board her company sponsored for the day. Another eight development boys were sponsored by Yammin Hammond & Partners Take a break. McDonald's SA sponsored 28 happy meals with Coke and toys for the development kids. Even the Oros Man popped in for a quick visit
